The city of Solothurn is the capital of the Canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. The city also is the only municipality of the district of the same name.
The official language of Solothurn is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.
Around 325-350, the unfortified settlement along the road was transformed into a fortified camp or castrum, which covered only half of the former settlement area. A 2–3 meters (6.6–9.8 ft) thick and 9 m (30 ft) high wall was built around the settlement. The new, fortified town was bell-shaped, and is still visible in the cadastral map of the city. At various points in the city, large and small pieces of the old Roman wall are still visible in the houses of the old town. The location of a gate in the north and a tower in the south-east corner are known and it is likely that there were additional gates and towers. Almost nothing is known about the buildings inside the walls
The object of this study was to describe a method of measuring targeting accuracy in functional neurosurgery using MR imaging and the Stereotactic Atlas of the Human Thalamus and Basal Ganglia. This method should be useful for any functional procedure using these tools or similar ones, and is described here in the specific context of focused ultrasound surgery. The authors describe the atlas coordinate system used, the different relevant targeting and accuracy definitions, the tools used, the intraoperative target determination, the postoperative target reconstructions, and the calculation of the therapeutic lesion volume. The proposed method has been applied to the specific situation of measuring targeting accuracy in focused ultrasound functional neurosurgery. The authors found mean absolute global targeting accuracies between 0.54 and 0.72 mm (SDs between 0.34 and 0.42 mm), with 85% of measured coordinates within 1 mm. The proposed method may be particularly useful in the context of functional neurosurgical procedures implying therapeutic ablations, be they through radiofrequency, focused ultrasound, or any other technique. This method allows an ongoing control of the targeting precision, a basic requirement in any functional neurosurgical procedure.
The Federal Trade Commission will require Johnson & Johnson (J&J) to sell its system for surgically treating serious wrist fractures, resolving charges that J&J's proposed $21.3 billion acquisition of Synthes, Inc. would illegally reduce competition for these systems. J&J intends to sell its system, known as DVR, along with the rest of its product line for treating traumatic injuries, to Biomet, Inc.
The case is the most recent example of the FTC's ongoing effort to promote competition in the health care sector, which benefits U.S. consumers by keeping prices low and quality and choice of products and services high. J&J and Synthes together would have more than 70 percent of the U.S. market for the wrist fracture treatment systems, according to the FTC.
